Book One

The Beacon

Start here. The first book in the series.

The Ring is all that remains of a destroyed planet: a belt of debris the Denisi have made their industrial frontier. It also holds something another power has wanted for thousands of years.

When the Hearth ship Invictus is sent to find out what is stirring near the Ring, her crew finds the Dominion awake, organized, and moving on Denova. And it already knows exactly where Hearth is.

The Clarion

Read after The Beacon.

The Beacon was the warning. The Clarion is the call to arms.

Hearth and the Denisi now face an enemy that fights without fear and learns from every loss. Winning will take more than ships. It will take the pilots, controllers and specialists who do the work, and an alliance neither side ever expected to need.

The author

D. Harley Turner

D. Harley Turner started his aviation life in the back of a KC-10 as a boom operator, passing fuel to other aircraft in flight. He went on to fly as a C-130 flight engineer, worked overseas as a military contractor, and then spent years as an A&P mechanic keeping aircraft in the air. Today he holds a doctorate in organizational leadership and is moving into teaching the next generation of aviation technicians.

Ashes in the Ring draws on all of it. It's military science fiction where the heroes aren't admirals. They're the crew chiefs, warrant officers and enlisted specialists who make the mission happen.
